We are aware that stating that this is «the best beach in the south of Catalonia» has its risks and it always depends, as it everyone is a whole world. Depending on the needs and expectations of each other, one may prefer one beach or another. But if you are a nature lover, if you are fond of crystal clear water caves, if you’re in love with magical hidden corners…we are sure you’re going to fall in love with this beach.
Getting here is not easy. Maybe this is the reason why this corner at about 5km south of L’Ametlla de Mar remains unchanged despite the progress of tourism and construction or destruction (as we like to call it) of human beings.
The best kep secret of the Costa Dorada
We must leave our vehicle on a nearby road and walk about 5 minutes to reach the edge of the sea. From there, we must take the path that runs along the coast called GR 92. It’s a maze of paths crossing cliffs, pine forests and small coves of crystalline waters.
The road is not very long or complicated, we believe it can even be walked with kids, but you have to wear good footwear as well as food and water since in this area you will not find bars, or restaurants, or nothing quite like it .
Along the way we’d better prepare the camera because it is impossible to resist the temptation to shoot such beauty. There’s an intense forest aroma and it’s hot in the summer, but the scenery is breathtaking. We can begin to glimpse L’Illot at the bottom, a small rocky island that during the days of low tide is joined to the mainland by a small strip of fine white sand. Once we got here we realize the beauty of this corner of the Costa Dorada.
The green of the pines fills everything and contrasts with the red rocks of l’Illot. The waters are crystal clear and a small strip of fine white sand invites you to finally lay back and relax in the sun. Moreover the small strip of sand separates two beaches, a sandy one and a rocky one.

When we visit l’Ametlla de Mar most of us wish to discover small paradisiac coves, away from mass tourism there is in other parts of this coast. Well l’Illot is definitely our favorite spot and a must whenever we visit this town.
How to get to the best beach in the Costa Dorada, l’Illot?
From the road N340 or the highway AP-7 you need to get the way out at l’Ametlla de Mar. Once we move beyond the road, we have to drive towards the town. First you will find a roundabout with a statue and if we continue, we will leave behind a bridge over the highway. Just behind the bridge follow the signs to the Rocas Dorada residential area and drive for 4km to Punta del Aguila. Everything is well displayed.
