During the long days of your summer vacation, the activities are certainly more focused on the beach and the sea. After a long winter, kids and not so much kids anymore alike are excited to feel the sand under their feet and enjoy the sea. But after several days of sun and beach you might feel like spending the afternoon with the family differently. We would like to invite you to a stroll through the Old Town of Cambrils, that is as beautiful as still unknown. The fisher port, the promenade, the beaches and the pedestrian area filled with shops, restaurants, etc. The maritime part of Cambrils has a lot of appeal, but what only few people know is that not very far away there is a beautiful historical center.
Take your time to enjoy the streets of “La Vila”, Cambrils’ Old Town
If you travel with children is to take the touristic train. The little ones willl surely appreciate it. The train leaves from the post of Cambrils in front of the tourism office and there is a stop that will leave us in the old town. A maze of narrow streets and pavement that will take us back in time. You can enjoy the streets that are filled with flowers and decorated patios. Centenary doors and precios little corners that are well worth a picture. So keep your camera close.
Take a walk around the walls and get to know the history of Cambrils
If you get closer to the old walls you can find a monument made of iron and Wood by of name of “Estela Falç”, a tribute to the men and women of Cambrils who died in 1640 of the guns of Felipe V. During the Segadors War, an army of 20,000 men surrounded Cambrils for several weeks and finally when the village surrendered they killed over 700 people at the doors of the Wall. If you pass by this place you will see several plaques that commemorate and explain Cambrils’ history.
After a walk you can head to Plaza de España a place where city hall used to be. Here you can stop to have a drink watching and enjoying the serene life of La Vila.
You cannot miss a visit to the Ermita de la Mare de Deu del Camí and the its defense tower. There the ‘daredevils’ among you can go up 80 treads to access the top where you will have one of the best panoramic views of Cambrils and the surrounding area.
To end the tour of the most interesting places in “La Vila” you can always have dinner in one of the restaurants in the area. Here you can find pizzerías and bars where they serve delicious traditional food. Afterwards you can go down to the port to end the day with a nice walk.
It doesn’t have to be cloudy to enjoy a family day in “La Vila.” Summer days are long and there is always time to do everything.
